Default Whats up with Elvis Dumerville?

I was expecting big things from this guy considering the scrubs we have on the D-line. Has he even dressed up? Playing the D-line is not the most complicated position to learn so I dont think theres a learning curve to worry about. What say you?

Maybe the coaches don't think he is as good as the fans hoped.

Actually, this isn't true. DL frequently take a year or two to lean their position. The reason is that most of these guys don't have enough moves or very good technique coming out of college. On that level, they were able to get by with their physical superiority. In the pros, the physical playing field is more level, and players have to become craftier. Now, one of Elvis' strengths is technique, so hopefully he'll get on the field soon. Remember, Trevor Pryce was inactive for a large portion of his rookie season, and he was a 1st rounder.

Jury is still out but the fact he is on the 53 should tell us there is hope.

Just a guess, but he's smallish, slowish and has short arms. He'll prolly get a couple of sacks cause of his motor though, and Indy will prolly overpay him as a UFA after that.

Actually he is fast and has freakishly long arms for his height.

I think he has been inactive all year which I don't understand. He should at least be getting some looks in the DL rotation. I think he will as the season goes on. I understand bringing the rookies along slowly but it's not like we have a lot of DL talent. He looked like a playmaker to me in the last couple preseason games.

Well that's definitely a guess with regard to "short arms". People, know your team's players! One of the strong suits reported about Dumerville is that while he is short, he has the arms of a man that is 6'5", which is one of the reasons that he was such a dominant pass rusher in college despite his size.

He's been inactive for both games, so far. I thought his speed rush would help last week...But run support is what they needed instead.

If he is playing well in practice he'll probably be active this week, since we will need to pressure Brady to have a chance Sunday Night

I think Elvis can be great for us if he is used properly. Once again, wh yare they lining him up at Tackle?? I watched the ppreseason, and he regularly got driven back a few yards at tackle.

HE GOT 20 SACKS LAST YEAR AS AN END! Why are we trying to rotate him?
I am no football genius, but I question this move. It's like asking Jake to be a drop back passer - it will mean the end of a career.

Let the dude do what the dude does. Alter the defense to fit the strengths of our players.

Don't use Lynch for deep coverage, use Cobbs on the goal line, keep Jake rolling out - even if there's pressure. Use Elvis as an End.

Just seems like common sense.

oh that's right, I just get him confused with Monte Reagor (-:

http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/dumervil_elvis

But seriously what is with you guys? I mean obviously you lost whatever senses of humor you had, but more so, why is it there are all these freaking homer threads on every ****ing rookie on the team? Cutler shoud start? What's wrong with Sheffler? (clue, he's not only a rook, but a pick on potential) What about Elvis (clue, he's a longshot to be a nfl starter)

A little more objectivty rather than newby band wagon homerism, please. Jesus, I'm starting to understand some of the chorf fans frustrations.

I know TJ is serious about Cutler, but the majority of the threads started about rookies over the last day, in my opinion, are simply "baiting" threads...

The reason I am frustrated with the QB position is this: Mike Shanahan shouldn't EVER have to dumb down the playbook for a 4 year starter. If there's a rookie behind him with a better and more accurate arm, and you are dumbing down the playbook anyway, why not play him? What advantage does a rag arm QB that can't handle the playbook have over a rookie who has an accurate cannon that can't handle the full playbook? At least the kid could make some accurate throws down the field and mildly threaten the other team's defense with the deep ball. Right now, defense are simply containing the boot leg and making Plummer pass from the pocket...who's the better pocket passer, Plummer of Cutler? I think we all know the answer to that question.

The other thing about Cutler is that he doesn't appear to handle himself like a normal rookie. He's been through the fire many, many times where his team was severely overmatched and yet he played at a very high level in college. The NFL might be intimidating, but I don't think Cutler is your "normal" rookie QB. Would he make mistakes? Hell yes. But...our 10 year veteran with the dumbed down playbook is making ROOKIE mistakes himself. I just don't see any disadvantages to going with Cutler if Plummer throws up another stinker this weekend. Actually, the only disadvantage I see is that the locker room might be a little pissed off about it. But that's it.

Elway had like a 55 rating and threw 14 picks to 7 tds his rookie year.

Peace out, as my kid says.

Elway also played in a completely different offense under Reeves, not to mention that he didn't have near the supporting cast that Jay would have. Your stat is an apples to oranges comparison.

In all seriousness, it makes a lot of sense to bring Elvis along slowly. Since he is undersized, we can expect him to hit the wall hard this year. Might be wise to put that off so he can be ready to give us his best football in the second half.

REP! Please don't get me started!

That's been my one pet peeve with the organization since they drafted Terry Pierce. They are currently trying to make DJ Williams fit into a role that isn't suited to his talents. Now the same with Dumervil.
