Could be the Kings Final selection here.....
LW Esa Tikkanen ![]() Tikkanen won 4 Stanley Cups with the Oilers and another with the Rangers. His various acquisitions were by teams craving him for his playoff experience and success: in 877 regular season games he scored 244 goals, but in 186 playoff games he scored 72 goals. "Tik" was known for his ability to score clutch goals, but also for his general style of play - chippy and aggressive. He was especially noted for irritating opposing players, often just by talking to them as his Finnish-English "Tikkanese" or "Tiki-Talk". His regular season totals were 244 goals, 386 assists, and 1077 penalty minutes. In the playoffs he added 72 goals, 60 assists, and 275 penalty minutes. In September of 2001, Jokerit retired his number, #5, in a special ceremony. Tikkanen is famous for his Finnish-English, sometimes referred to as "Tikkanese" or "Tiki-Talk." Even members of his team often did not understand what he was saying. Wayne Gretzky once commented, ""He brings something special. I don't know what it is, but if you ask him, you couldn't understand his answer." Current Edmonton Oiler coach and former teamate Craig MacTavish said, "Esa talks twice as much as anybody else. That's because you can understand just half what he says." |

I thought he'd be taken, but I don't see him on the alphabetical list, so I'll select G - Ed Belfour (Blackhawks,Sharks,Stars,Maple Leafs).
I don't like the man, or any of the NHL teams he's played for, or the college he attended (North Dakota), but I've always begrudgingly respected how good of a goaltender he's been. Belfour almost singlehandedly kept the Avalanche from winning more Stanley Cups with his performances in the '99 & '00 Western Conference Finals. He's won 1 Stanley Cup, 1 Calder, 2 Vezinas and is the second winningest goalie in NHL history. |

Darn, I was hoping the other's dislike of Eddie would have let him slip to me. I don't care for him either, but he was good.
Plus I still get the hysterical giggles when I think about the "cough syrup" game. |

I love learning about these old guys.
Those Cheap Bastards select: C - Nels "Old Poison" Stewart(Maroons/Bruins/Americans) # Won the Hart Trophy in 1926 and 1930. # Played in the first NHL All-Star Game in 1934. # Led the playoffs in scoring in 1926 with six goals, three assists and nine points in eight games. # Led the league in penalty minutes in 1927 with 133. # Holds the NHL record for fastest two goals (4 seconds apart) Between 1940 and 1952, Nels Stewart was the NHL's all-time goal-scoring leader. One of the most lethal offensive players of his day, he earned the nickname "Old Poison" because of his deadly accurate shot. Stewart also had a dark side, and he was more than willing to use his stick or mix it up with members of the opposition whenever the mood struck him. After excelling in hockey with the Parkdale Canoe Club in Toronto in 1919-20, Stewart embarked on a successful five-year tenure with the Cleveland Indians of the USAHA. He led the league in goals scored in four of those seasons before he and Babe Siebert were signed by the Montreal Maroons in 1925. The fiery center burst onto the NHL scene in 1925-26, scoring a league-high 34 goals in his first season. He also won the regular-season scoring title with 42 points and was awarded the Hart Trophy as the league's most valuable player. Stewart's infusion of skill and production helped the Maroons win the Stanley Cup in their sophomore NHL season. In 1929-30, Stewart was teamed with Siebert and Hooley Smith to form the dreaded S Line. This formidable trio fused talent and physical play at a level rarely seen in NHL history. Stewart responded to this new assignment with a personal-best 39 goals in only 44 games. He was presented with his second Hart Trophy and his reputation as one of the most effective pivots in league history was solidified. On January 3, 1931, Stewart set an NHL record by scoring two goals in four seconds against the Boston Bruins. This feat was unmatched until December 1995, when Deron Quint of the Winnipeg Jets produced two quick goals. The S Line was broken up when Stewart was traded to Boston prior to the 1932-33 season. In 1934 Stewart was selected to be one of the NHL All-Stars who faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the historic Ace Bailey Benefit Game. Stewart reached the 20-goal mark twice in Beantown before a trade sent him to the New York Americans in 1936-37. The trip to the Big Apple agreed with Old Poison, as he scored 20 goals in his last 32 games of the season and won the regular-season goal-scoring title for the first time since his rookie year in the NHL. Stewart retired in 1940 with an NHL record 324 goals to his credit and his total stood as the league standard until Maurice Richard eclipsed it on November 8, 1952. The hard-driven star took his rightful place in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962. The story that he spat tobacco juice in the eyes of opposing goalies may be apocryphal but apparently is in keeping with his temperament on the ice. Stewart was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962. |

If noone takes Joe Malone I'm going to cry myself to sleep.
By all accounts, the guy could've gone in the first round. He scored more goals than he played games. Last edited by Killericon; 09-11-2006 at 11:02 PM.. |

If he had played as many games as Wayne Gretzy, he wouldv'e scored 1688 goals...Gretzky scored 894.
I'm really regretting forgetting this guy until AFTER my top 4 lines are full. |
