Wow...so much pressure...I know I'm gonna screw this draft up somehow; but here goes.

With the 2nd overall selection in the all time MLB draft, Killericon selects Right Fielder Hank Aaron.

The all time home run king's not a bad 2nd overall pick, is he?

Quote:
Exhibiting an understated style that became his trademark, Hank Aaron became the all-time home run champion via one of the most consistent offensive careers in baseball history. In addition to his 755 home runs, he also holds the major league record for total bases, extra-base hits and RBI. Aaron was named the 1957 National League MVP, won three Gold Gloves for his play in right field and was named to a record 24 All-Star squads.

"Trying to throw a fastball by Henry Aaron is like trying to sneak a sunrise past a rooster."
— Curt Simmons

We've done an NFL draft, and we're doing an MLB draft; why not an NHL one?

I started one in the NHL forum if anyone's interested. Thought I'd mention it.

LF Ted Williams Red Sox

Theodore Samuel Williams

  • Ted Williams was the last man to hit .400, when he batted .406 in 1941.

  • He won the Triple Crown in 1947.

  • He wasn't named AL MVP in either season. Spiteful Boston writers left him off their ballots entirely, delivering the MVP award to Joe DiMaggio both years.

  • In 1946 and 1949, sportswriters were unable to deny him the MVP.

  • 521 home runs as a lefthanded hitter in Fenway, despite a career that was twice interrupted by military service.

  • 17 time All-Star.

  • .344 lifetime batting average seventh all-time.

  • All-time leader with a .482 career on-base percentage.

  • Won six batting titles, including at age 23 and 40.

  • Led the AL in HRs and RBI four times each.

  • Led the AL in runs scored six times and walks eight times.

  • Led the league in slugging percentage nine times and on-base percentage 12 times.

  • In his final season, 1960, he hit a dramatic home run in Fenway Park in his final at-bat. It was his 29th of the season, a record for players at least 40 years old.

  • In his Hall of Fame acceptance speech he lobbied for the inclusion of Negro League players in Cooperstown.

  • He was later inducted into the Sportsman’s Fishing Hall of Fame – known as one of the best fly fisherman in American history.

"A man has to have goals - for a day, for a lifetime
- and that was mine, to have people say,
'There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived.'"

I wanted Teddy Ballgame as well, but I don't mind settling for the Say Hey Kid.

Willie Mays CF

- Played with the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues from 1948-50

- "Say Hey" was Willie's greeting to youngsters when he stopped to play stickball with them on the streets of Harlem

- Mays hit his first major league home run off Warren Spahn

- Mays is the all-time MLB leader in outfield putouts and total chances

Allright, though I'm a bit conflicted about it, I'll use my first selection on Ty Cobb, OF Tigers/Athletics.

"The Georgia Peach" is widely regarded as one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen......as well as being one of the worst human beings who've ever put on a uniform. While I'm not fond of his vile personality, it's hard to overlook his lifetime .366 batting average, 4189 career hits and 892 stolen bases. He batted over .400 three times in his career and won the triple crown in 1909.

Round 1

With my first selection I'll take Honus Wagner, SS, Pittsburgh Pirates. Wagner is the greatest shortstop of all-time and will continue to be now that Arod is a third baseman.

With the first pick of the second round I'll take Mickey Mantle, CF, New York Yankees. I hope to get the pre-injury Mick as I feel that version is better than any CF ever.
