I'm a huge supporter of "plug in" technology (90% of the time, my commute is about 3 miles each way daily, so a plug in would be perfect for me), but good luck getting people to fork over $40K for that.....

Toyota will definitely have a much cheaper plug in about the same time or not long after this one comes out. I'd wait for that one.

Excellent way to tax cap and trade invisibly, since most power plants are coal and nuclear is dead to Obama. Natural gas is a waste in power plants. It's abundant and cheap because we use natural supply and demand, unlike opec, a cartel.

I'm not sure that electric is significantly moe green, except for short commutes.

I see it that way, too. Instead of your vehicle generating its own energy for motion, you plug it into a wall and it gets that energy to move from a plant far away - sometimes over a 1000 miles away. How much electricity is lost thru the powerlines during that trip?

I'm certain the Price will go down as Production goes up. As for charging, I agree on most counts, however the Engine does recharge the Batteries while underway (up to 30%), so it's not completely a "plug-in"-

I applaud it-it's great that American Technology did this first-

There is going to be a $7,500 credit from the gov't to be had and also some states offer $$$ for electric plug in vehicles.

The volt may get 230, but technically if you drive less than 40 miles daily then you will never have to fill up. I'd give that an EPA estimate of infinity (well, currently the battery is rated to last 150,000 miles. You know what I mean. ).

Unfortunately that's still pretty pricey not to mention the cost of electricity to make much of an impact greed still holds back real potential.

Cool. Maybe we could build 8-10 more Nuclear power plants to power all these electric cars

It would take 10 years to offset the differnce the cost if you got it interest free. DOA at 40k. I'd pay no more than 15 maybe 20.
