Default Fast Cars and Fast Bikes

Since I guess we're in OT mode now, fast cars and fast bikes are always a good topic and dear to my heart. So, ya got one?

I'm a Mercedes S class kind of guy from way back. I like big fast sedans. I've owned a 220S, a 220SE, a 250SE and an S500. I didn't like the S500 too much, was in the shop too much. I have a Lexus GS300 right now, nice machine. Mercedes straight sixes I always liked, the one V8 I got disappointed me. So I grabbed a 2003 Lexus GS300 and what a car. Nice midsize sedan, tight as a drum, accelerates great, a little slower than I'd like on top-end acceleration say from 70-110. It would be a world-class machine if it was 250-300 lbs lighter. It's a straight-six which is the best configuration. Superb brakes. RWD and very predictable oversteer. BMW makes a straight six still, and a BMW probably handles a little better plus the BMW is available in a manual shift, but the Lexus has reliability on its side. Mercedes always built a nice straight six, but they haven't produced one of those for a long time. Too bad, straight six is a wonderful engine, easy to work on, simple smooth design.

So what ya got?

The Impala, Buicks, Olds, even the big coupes like a Torino had crappy suspension and brakes. Try to make a quick lane change with them at 80 and you'd end up in a ditch. Four wheel drum brakes, what a joke. Are you working me?

This here is a bad ass bike.

http://www.cbxclub.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=2053

Six cylinders, six carbs, the 1979 Honda CBX. A classic bike. Unmistakable engine note if you've ever been privileged to hear one. The first production bike to go from 0-100 and back to 0 in less than 10 seconds. Kawasaki brought out their 900, and this was Honda's answer. Those two brought out the age of the superbike. Kawasaki brought the 1000 and the 1300 six cylinder, which was the answer to the 1050CC CBX. After that, governments got a little scared. The Europeans surprisingly limited horsepower after Kawasaki and Honda got into their horsepower war. In the US the horsepower wasn't a problem, but Honda and Kawasaki didn't build for different markets. In any case, Honda let Kawasaki build the fastest street bikes after that. Honda kept up in road racing but was willing to take second place while they built up their auto industry. It's a shame the US couldn't keep up, what happened there? How come is it we can't compete at the highest levels in fast machines? Pisses me off.

Got a 1994 Mustang GT myself. White with black interior and a 5 speed. Damn fast car too, got the the old 5.0 liter V-8 and some mods.

So far I put on an off-road H-pipe (no catalytic converters) flowmaster mufflers, underdrive pullies, cold air intake, shifter, 17x8 inch Black Bullitt wheels and removed all the emissions control devices. Even with all the miles on her, she did 9.301 in the 1/8th mile with just the H-pipe, mufflers and shifter.

Once I start at the Sheriffs Department I'm basically going to tear her apart and rebuild her, as well as buying one of these beasts....

Hey Florida_Bronco, those Cobra's are baaaad-azz! Slap a Kenne Bell blower on it and it will make insane power. I have a friend with one, his is putting out about 630 HP.

I got an 01 convertible GT with a stoked/built motor and twin turbo's. Put's out about 575hp and 675 ft lbs of tourqe on pump gas, it's pretty quick.

I'm actually looking at getting an old (2004 model) cop car (Crown Vic) for my daily commute to work. It is black/white so people will think I am a cop while I am driving, ! They are asking $4700 - $5000 for them, I'll see if I can negotiate with them.

Cito Pelon, you ain't kidding about drum brakes on the old cars, my 68 Torino takes a while to stop! But I will say this, old American muscle cars look sexy!

I was looking at a Crown Vic ex-cop car not long ago. That sumb**** sat low and was ready to hunt. I was seriously interested in that machine. I know the Ford Co makes special suspension, and that car looked like a ridge runner to me.

I rented a Crown Vic on vacation in Florida once and it rode nice and has a HUGE trunk! Ever since then I wanted one, but an ex cop one. either all white or black and white.

I'd love to get a Mercury Maurader, but those are too $$$ for what I want to spend on a car to go to work in.

Here is one of the ones for sale by my house, the silver stripes wash off they said.

Maybe you should look around a bit. Those two you show have the wide tires that would indicate a cop special, but I bet if you look around a bit you'll find some better deals.

Isn't yours the Zinc Yellow one? I thought I remember you talking about the Yellow Mustang Registry awhile back. When I get that Cobra I'm probably gonna do the 2.3 liter Whipple blower, but the Kenne Bell is an option.

yeah, that was me. I have a buddy with an 06 GT and a whipple, it puts down really good power, like 475 to the wheels! Whipple makes a good blower too, just seems to be more KB out there on Cobra's.

I was thinking about getting one of the Orange ones Hades posted and calling it "Orange Crush" but I just like that Sonic Blue too much to pass on it.

ZX11, that's a Kawi? What's your top speed? I haven't been over 115 on a bike myself, at least that's where my eyes started tearing and I couldn't see well. I always had pretty cheap helmets.

Yes, Kawasaki. They were actually a 1057 cc carbureted 4 cylinder DOHC motor. Made around 135 horses at the rear wheel, ran a top speed of 178 MPH, that’s radar verified not calculated by engine RPM’s as some magazines used to do, and ran a 10.40 ¼ at about 140 MPH.
For the longest time the ZX-11 was the speed king. Honda took a shot at the title with the CBR1100XX but in typical Honda fashion it wasn’t really faster or more powerful, it was just better refined.
Nothing really challenged the ZX-11 until ’98 when Suzuki came out with the GSX1300R Hyabusa.

The Hayabusa didn’t just match the Kawi’s numbers, it shattered them. It ran a radar verified 196 MPH and rather effortlessly whipped out a 9.8 ¼ at a little over 145 MPH. Keith “Shine” Dennis later ran a stock ‘Busa to a 9.47 ¼, but he’s arguably the best in the business.

Since we are on the topic, thought I'd list some cool cars that have been in the family.

Dad owned a 1971 Camaro Z/28 just like this one. Bought it brand new his senior year of high school. Unfortunately his first wife made him sell it and the kid who bought it wrapped it around a tree 3 days later.

We bought an old 1940 Chevy 2 door that was a rust bucket and completed about 75% of the restoration, but we sold it to buy a house. It would have looked alot like this.

Parents had a 1988 Thunderbird like this. It wasn't the Turbo Coupe version, but a 5.0 liter LX model that was fully loaded save for a sunroof. Great car that served us well until my mom blew the engine in it.

Dad bought a 1965 Nova SS like this (except ours was blue like the Camaro) that had a built 327 in it putting out around 425 horsepower. Dad used to do some street racing back in Council Bluffs with it and this car was never beaten. Ended up being sold right before we moved to Florida.

If I buy another bike now, I'd buy a BMW R90. I like those boxers. Easy to work on, excellent handling, big tanks.
