Default Auroura Police tazer man accused of sneaking through salad line at Chuck E. Cheese

Wow!

Dad Accused Of Chuck E. Cheese Salad Theft Zapped By Police
Aurora Police Say Proper Procedures Followed

UPDATED: 11:43 am EST March 2, 2005

AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora police have reviewed a weekend incident in which a man accused of stealing salad from a Chuck E. Cheese salad bar was hit with a stun gun twice by officers and said that proper procedures were followed.

The incident began at 4:05 p.m. Sunday when officers were called to the restaurant on a report of a larceny in progress.

Police talked to the Chuck E. Cheese manager, who told them that a customer had refused to show proof that he had paid for food. The manager said the man was seen "loading" his plate at the salad bar.

The officers confronted Danon Gale, 29, who was at the restaurant with his children, aged 3 and 7. Patrons said the popular kids pizza parlor was packed with children and families at the time.

According to police, Gale was asked to step outside to discuss the incident.

"According to witnesses (Gale) refused to cooperate with police and a struggle ensued," said Larry Martinez, a police spokesman. He said that Gale became argumentative and shoved one of the officers, a fact disputed by another patron.

"One of the officers kept poking the gentleman in the chest," Felicia Mayo told the Rocky Mountain News.

She was there with her 7-year-old son. She told the newspaper that Gale told the officer "You don't have to do that." She said Gale never put his hands on the officer who was confronting him

The argument escalated until Gale was shoved into the lap of Mayo's sister, who was sitting two booths away, holding a 10-month-old baby. That's when police pulled out a Taser stun gun to subdue him.

"They beat this man in front of all these kids then Tased him in my sister's lap," Mayo told the newspaper. "They had no regard for the effect this would have on the kids. This is Chuck E. Cheese, you know."

Gale's two children were "screaming and hollering and crying" as Gale was hit two times with the stun gun.

Police arrested Gale as his children and other customers watched. They took him outside, leaving his children inside the restaurant.

Gale was arrested for investigation of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and trespassing.

His two children were picked up by a relative.

The manager of the restaurant declined comment and Gale said he couldn't talk about it, after hiring an attorney.

An Aurora Police spokesman said that the sergeant on the scene wrote a report on the incident and forwarded it to his commander who determined that proper police procedures were followed relating to the use of the Taser gun .

I see your point, but I find it unnecessary to tazer a dude for theft of a salad bar

Just ask him to leave…….oye vay, the tazer is one of the best and worst things to happen for the police….they use it too much now instead of just talking it out

yea, but unfortuantely man the guy wasnt going to leave anytime soon. he was asked to step outside and declined. the problem that i have is when you are asked to do something by law inforcement then you are obliged to do it. the crap that these officers have to put up with is unbelievable and guys like this will take advantage of the fact that they had to use force to subdue him. now of course, if he was actually preparing to go outside and they got physical anyway, then thats another story. but i find it hard to believe that he couldnt show the Restraunt employee his proof of purchase. its really that simply. my guess is the guy was definitely being sneaky.

No doubt! Frankly, my frustration with stories like this is that in the private sector -- these cops would be fired and subject to personal lawsuits. However, being part of "Big Brother", we get to foot the bill and this obviously incompetent person will still have a job!

If the guy got busted stealing from the salad bar, why not just admit you got caught? I used to try to cop free meals at the pizza hut all you can eat buffets when I was in high school but when I got caught, I got caught. No use making a big deal about it. He might have even been able to arrange for payment but instead he acts like an idiot causing that police to get involved. If in fact he touched the officer in any way, that's pretty much just asking for it. An officer has every right to protect himself and others and the taser has become the easiest and increasingly popular way to subdue someone. Sounds like this dumbass got what he deserved too bad his kids had to see it.

ppl do die from tazers u know? it isnt "haha he got tazered." now its not common thankfully. but this gungho treatment of tazers will just read to some insane headline that absolutely demolishes police credibility. I think they've already killed a 14 year old w/ a tazer. would have to look that up.

ok, ill play along but whats the ratio with that in mind? how many people have died from Tazers compared to those who were just subdued? your still overlooking my main point here Yavoon. if the guy would have just showed his receipt it would have never gone that far. and this is the kind of crap that happens everyday. Law Enforcement continuelly have to put up with Gungho citizens who try and buck the system. this takes me back to the young teen who was shot and killed in Cincy after stealing 20 bucks from some woman. the officer chases him down and he gets cornered in a alley. the officer than proceeds to tell the kid to put his hands up and lay on the ground. so, what does the kid do? he smiles ( as if this is a joking matter ) and puts one of his hands in his pocket. now, obviously the officer shoots him in fear of something happening to him. and had the kid pulled a gun and killed the officer no one would be making a stink about it, instead the kid would go to trial and be tried as a minor because he " didnt know any better ". the way i look at it, if you stupid enough to challenge authority than your ready to deal with the consequences.

yah ppl are stupid and do things worth getting their asses kicked for. but the police aint the ppl to do it.

thats how system works, citizens gungho, police professionals. I can't get rid of the dumbasses no matter what I do and I certainly dont want gungho police officers=[.

nice, but can you explain the wallet incident in NYC? how about the beating of the inglewood boy last year? and how about rodney king and the LAPD backing out of the southern LA/downtown/koreatown areas during the riots to create a "human police border" around the beverly hills area leaving us to a state of martial law?? protect n serve my ass..

Tasers orders are being suspended all over the country. That's why I shorted that stock (TSAR) last month. Multiple lawsuits being filed over wrongful deaths. They've killed over 90 people.

I wasn't there so I don't know what happened but according to the report from witnesses the police physically assaulted him and he didn't touch the police officer.

I do know that some people, when confronted by the police and not having done anything wrong, take it personally.
