Suspended Canucks star seeks meeting with Bettman


There might not be a season, but if there is, Todd Bertuzzi wants to play.

Bertuzzi's agent, Pat Morris, has contacted NHL vice president Bill Daly to set up a meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman to discuss the Vancouver Canucks forward's reinstatement, the Toronto Star reported Thursday.

The league is currently in a lockout, and there's a chance the season will be canceled, meaning Bertuzzi wouldn't be able to play even if reinstated.

"We have indicated to Morris that, provided the players' association has no objection to the commissioner acting on Todd's request, the commissioner would be prepared to move forward with such a meeting," Daly said, the Star reported.

The union is not believed to have any objections to Bertuzzi's move, the Star reported.

Bertuzzi was suspended indefinitely after hitting Colorado Avalanche defenseman Steve Moore with a blind-sided sucker punch March 8.

Bertuzzi pleaded guilty in a British Columbia court and received a year’s probation in which he is not allowed to play in a game against Moore.

The Avalanche forward was hospitalized with a broken neck, facial cuts, post-concussion symptoms and amnesia after Bertuzzi slugged and jumped him from behind, driving him headfirst into the ice.

It is unknown if Moore will ever play again.
