Nothing spectacular. I think mostly he played it safe, which was a smart move.

What was up with the sweat, though? You'd think they would make sure the podium area was at a comfortable temperature.

I'm sure he didn't make the portion of the Democratic base who wants us to bring our troops home very happy. 40 thousand new troops? Where is he going to get that? Bush is having to extend tours of duty BECAUSE we can't find enough people willing to go fight the war on terror.

Well the liberal part of the base has to understand , that whether we agree or not going into Iraq was right or wrong , the fact is we are there , now we have to fix what we have done , pulling out has never been an option ...... As for the 40 K troops , i would think better benefits would go a long way in getting that # of troops ........
it wont be easy , but I think he will pull a JFK ......

Great move saying that families won't have to take up collections to buy body armor for their loved ones if you're President. Didn't you and Edwards both vote against the $87 billion Iraq appropriations bill? There's a campaign commercial for Bush.

His voting record on defense and intelligence, 19 years in the Senate where he sponsored no major legislation, his "I'm not George Bush" speech tonight, and his comment about going to his website to see where he stands on issues. Silly me, I thought the whole point of this speech was to see where he stands on the issues.

Bush has more then enough stuff to go after Kerry on.

Well herc, The debates are where the candidates will layout where they stand. It's not fair to expect a presidential candidate to speak on every issue in a 55 minute speech.

It was a pretty good speech. It had some nice moments to it. But now he's got the task of explaining how he is going to do this. We know what he wants to do, but how is he going to do it. I want to crap 100 dollar bills. Now I have to find out how I'm going to do it. Bringing up misleading into war was a simple thing to bring up to keep the left elite. Even tho his running mate was on the intelligence committee and saw the same info Bush did. Both signed off on it with no problem after seeing the same intelligence that Bush did. But whatever... Cleland gave a nice opening for him aswell. Overall, it was an eventful night for the DNC and Kerry. Now it's time to see how big of a boost he gets with it.

Here is a thought , how about he puts 3 million People back to work and tax them instead of Raising taxes ?
Then how about increasing the GNP instead of outsourcing Jobs ?
Funny what you can come up with when you think

So tell us how he's going to create these jobs? By taxing the hell out of the people who hire others?

See, spider, I've yet to meet a poor person that hired anyone. and if outsourcing a few IT jobs almost doubles our exports how is that bad?

In another thread I told you where our outsourcing 3,000 jobs to Inida increased our exports from 2.5 billion to 4.1 billion...things like bottled water from Coke and Pepsi, AC's from Carrier, Phones from ATT and phone systems from Lucent Technologies, Cpu's from Compaq...and on and on.

...oh, and you might want to send Kerry an e-mail and tell him and his veep to get on the same page. Edwards admitted that they were going to raise taxes on the biggest earners in the country.

The body armor was less than 1/3 of 1 percent of that bill. That whole thing is such spin it's unbeleivable. Kerry essentially opposed spending 87 BILLION dollars (that we don't actually have) on the military action in Iraq. He wasn't saying 'I want to screw our soldiers and put them in danger', but rather saying that spending 87 billion dollars wasn't in the best interests of the country. There was a lot of debate on the Senate floor surrounding this bill, with a compromises that the Republicans refused to hear.To take 0.33% of 87 billion and say that somehow Kerry is anti-soldier is an incredible logical leap.

It's also interesting to note that even though Bush received his $87 billion, 40,000 soldiers still went to Iraq without that much ballyhooed body armor anyways.

1/3 of 1% of $87 billion is around $287 million dollars. That a decent chunk of change for something that costs around $1500 apiece.

so what your saying is that Kerry wouldn't spend money to fight a war?

One could bring up all the other military bills he's voted against to show a pattern that he's clearly anti-military, but then again you'd just dismiss it like you did this last one.

so tell us, how much of the $87 billion was for pay raises for the troops (afterall according to Edwards we got people in soup lines)...how much of it was for beans and bullets? How much was for night vision goggles, claymore mines and all the other equipment needed by the troops to protect themselves?

As for the soldiers going to Iraq without the body armor anyways....manufacturing body armor isn't done over night...especially 40,000 sets of it. But cheer up, one of our local companies here in WNC is hriring more employees as we speak to fill the order

That was one of his best performances that I've seen and while he touched favorably on issues that are important to me, I'm still not sure it was enough to sway me from voting Libertarian in November......the jury remains out till the debates.

Bad move asking W and the GOP for civility and taking the high road....the W & GOP are basically incapable of doing that and haven't done it in many years. The vicious attack strategy works well, I fully expect them to stick with it and accellerate it if the election remains close or W falls behind in the polls.
