Default Franklin to LG confirmed

According to his Twitter account:

What are your thoughts? I think it's a good idea, and we can give Clark and a new prospect some time out at RT. Interesting that he came out with it so soon.

Clady, Franklin, Ramirez, Vasquez, Clark. -- Solid.

Looks like we can lessen the priority on a OG/OL right away in the draft. Likely will look at guys in rounds 3-5 to compete would be my guess. Billy Turner (NDSU) would be a nice get, OT capability, likely to kick inside to G. Don't forget Painter (PS) and Montgomery (FA) as well.

If last season taught us anything, we need high quality backups.

This lineup makes the most sense going into the season but depth remains a big concern. We have Will Montgomery at C; I have no idea how good he was last season but Elway pushed for him quickly though only for a 1 year deal - hopefully he can provide some G depth as well.

Painter may be decent but its way too early to tell. He was pretty god awful last year in preseason but having to play next to Phillip Blake obviously didn't do him any favors. At this point Paul Cornick seems a more stable backup than Painter.

We definitely need to look for some additional depth via draft or vet min deals late in FA.

I like it. You have Clark playing RT and some serious mass in the middle. With Painter in the wings and some more smart drafting, I think it gives a great deal of depth.

We just plugged and played him in there. Allows Chris Clark, who performed well, to keep a starting job. Five seasoned guys is better than four seasoned and a rookie, IMHO. Allows us to focus on DB, LB, etc. earlier in the draft. Believe we signed Montgomery as well -- competition. Painter on the PS.

Totally agree... I like this move as I think Clark did a great job at LT, and should be a nice fit at RT. Draft a guy in the mid rounds to develop. It just creates more versatility and opportunity for this line to be so dominant.

Ryan Clark is going to be one of the best RT's in the league. A monster.

And the story of Chris Clark is a perfect example of perseverance and never-say-die work, too.

He went undrafted - was a training camp cut by Tampa Bay his rookie year, Minnesota picked him up and he spent two years on the Vikings practice squad. McXanders signed him in Denver, despite the fact his "Pass protection was atrocious." (below)

The Elway regime worked him up, he's played in every Broncos game since John took over, and now he unseats a very highly rated RT to become a starter.

Anybody whining Elway only buys players, doesn't develop then ... this is who you point to.

Except for Clady (Beadles), which of these guys are different than the ones that got manhandled in the Super Bowl. Compare them to 97/98 not so special. They have to prove it first by controlling line of scrimmage against the very best defenses in the NFC West. We still need an upgrade in the draft that can push Clark and/or Ramirez back to the bench. That would be more special.

This just thins our depth across the line. Here's hoping no one gets hurt. Id rather try out Montgomery. Clark comes in when not if someone gets hurt.

how does it thin the line out?

Instead of Clark being a back up at tackle Montgomery is a back up at guard and Painter is back up at tackle or if he beats out Ramirez than Ramirez is back up at guard.

Too me it is putting your best players on the field.

and they can draft more depth as well

I just don't like painter seeing the field. If Clark went down I could see Franklin moving back over and Montgomery at guard though.

I think you answered your own question.

Depth is a concern, but its much less worrisome than depending on a rookie protecting PM.

Well, they can also use a 1st or 2nd round pick at OT. The brass knows how good Painter is we don't. If they don't like him they probably wouldn't do this move or they will at least take a high round OT.

Need you best 5 players on the field...period.

I think Painter is still a very raw young player just learning the position. I dont think hes a factor in any of the oline shuffling equation. Of course, I could be wrong, but that my opinion.

Besides, Winston Justice was the backup tackle last season, not Painter. Hes still on the roster this season. He could be a decent vet backup tackle, or if not, sign another vet. Thats what Id do. I definelty dont think the Broncos have to grab a olineman at all in the early rounds. Later, yes. Thats probably a good long term strategy. But the online depth isnt an urgent concern to me.

I like when people say such and such isn't a lock to start because they aren't as high on said player as others. OK coach!

and why we will get more bodies on the OL. Injuries hit last year but we also hit big on bargains with guys like Vasquez.
