What's this about?

Orlando Franklin ‏@OFranklin74 1h
They say it's business, never personal. Ok well I'm pissed and it just became personal. I'm betting on me, 2014 will be a great yr for me

He had a very good season I would be surprised if he's getting benched. Maybe next years cap causality?

His contract is up anyway.

@mabroncofan

I very much doubt they asked him to move before the draft.

Maybe doesn't want to move to guard?

Either a position switch, or contract extension.

I bet he wanted more money. To which Elway said "nope, did you actually watch the Superbowl tape?"

I don't think there's really any question, right? Contract extension with more cash, signing bonus, whatever.

Could likely be tied to the recent Winston Justice news.

Extension talks have to be it. He's not getting benched and I doubt a move would have him betting on himself.

Maybe contract extension?!? They could be using Clark's success last year and Justice's resigning as leverage.

Dudes a straight monster for 18 games a season. If he could just step up for 19.

It has to be a failed extension. Nothing else makes much sense. I understand not extending him before the draft, especially when you know you're going to have to fork over some big money next year anyway on DT and probably Julius. But if we end up not taking an OL somewhere in the first three rounds I'd think Franklin would have quite a bit of leverage in negotiations.

It's definitely not him getting cut, that's for sure. Not that anybody said he was, but he did respond to two people who asked him if he was getting released.

They told him he has to wait for a new deal. Meanwhile this draft Elway has some good options at guard/center/ot

I think Franklin might not be re-signed next year. To be more balanced, the Broncos can't afford to dedicate too much resources to the Offense.

For all we know Elway knows about FA OT that will come available in next yrs FA and he thinks he can do better.

"balance" is a myth. be good at something. we already sacrificed some offense for defense this offseason anyway. no need to do it again.

This year they are spending $21M more on the Offense than Defense. Next year, they're currently on the hook for $10M more on Offense than Defense, and will have these starters coming in FA:

1. Demaryius Thomas
2. Wes Welker
3. Julius Thomas
4. Orlando Franklin
5. Terrance Knighton
6. Kevin Vickerson
7. Chris Harris
8. Nate Irving
9. Rahim Moore

They'll have roughly $26M-$30M to spend in FA, and won't be able to re-sign everybody. Orlando Franklin represents a big ticket item on Offense. If they let him walk, they'll be able to re-sign more guys like Knighton and Moore.
