Default 2014 Broncos' Free Agents

The time is never too soon to start thinking about the future, and while the Broncos have one of the best rosters in the NFL, the team could look a heck of a lot different when the 2014 season kicks off.

The Broncos have a total of 22 free agents in 2014. UFA stands for Unrestricted Free Agent, which means that player will immediately hit the open market. RFA stands for Restricted free agent, which means the player is on the open market, but the Broncos have the opportunity to match any offer that player receives or they are entitled to draft pick compensation. ERFA stands for Exclusive Rights Free Agent, which almost always means that player isn’t going anywhere if the team doesn’t want him to.

There are some BIG names on this list. Namely, Eric Decker, Chris Harris, Wesley Woodyard, Zane Beadles, Robert Ayers, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Trindon Holliday…the Broncos will find a way to make it all work out but there is a strong chance they will have to make some moves this offseason that the fans won’t be fans of.

Mike Adams, Safety (UFA)
Robert Ayers, Defensive End (UFA)
Zane Beadles, Offensive Guard (UFA)
Justin Boren, Offensive Lineman (ERFA)
Stewart Bradley, Linebacker (UFA)
Andre Caldwell, Wide Receiver (UFA)
Tony Carter, Cornerback (RFA)
Eric Decker, Wide Receiver (UFA)
Chris Harris, Cornerback (RFA)
Trindon Holliday, Return Specialist (ERFA)
Duke Ihenacho, Safety (ERFA)
Quintin Jammer, Cornerback (UFA)
Winston Justice, Offensive Tackle (UFA)
Dan Koppen, Center (UFA)
Chris Kuper, Guard (UFA)
Paris Lenon, Linebacker (UFA)
Greg Orton, Wide Receiver (ERFA)
Shaun Phillips, Defensive End (UFA)
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Cornerback (UFA)
Mitch Unrein, Defensive Tackle (RFA)
Steve Vallos, Center (UFA)
Wesley Woodyard, Linebacker (UFA)

I think you need to add Decker. Welker is a rental and after he is done, we are left with DT. Decker is needed.

Why do you say Welker is a rental? I think he has a better chance to resign then Decker. He is only 32 he could play another 5 years as long as he keeps his quickness.

As long as Manning is here Welker is here ............ they will set records that will never be broken until we go to touch or flag football.

I say he is a rental because he is signed through next season. Look at everyone who can be let go after next season. Peyton, Champ, DT, Von and Welker. If Peyton decides he's done, Welker won't be re-signed. We could very well see a youth movement after 2014 season ends.

Yeah I see Manning at least playing two more years after this year. I am hoping. Unlike Elway I want Manning to go for the three-peat

Woodyard is one of the defensive leaders of the team. Out of all of our free agents, it might be most important to keep him. Ihenacho is our best safety, and should be our next biggest priority. Holliday's probably the best returner in the NFL so if the price isn't too high, hope we can keep him.

I'd also like to keep Decker, DRC and Ayers... but dunno what the price will rise to. Imagine someone overpays on Decker

Id like to see ayers brought back aswell. A two year deal similar to what woodyard just sign last year would be fine. Him paired with quentarus are young and dynamic at de. I still wouldnt be opposed to drafting a de early or even round one.

Its time to move on from champ. Re sign drc and harris for the long haul. Kayvon looks like a keeper and we got tony carter with his role carved out. Next year our dbacks will be so young and talented its awsome ! Bring back duke and watch these guys grow together.

We have some gens on this defense were gonna b good and opportunistic for a long time.

Ayers will resign for pretty cheap. I think it's highly possible we part ways with Champ and his $14mil salary... and roll with DRC and a much reduced price - along with resigning a lot of others on the list.

I hope we win it all this year, so Champ can go out in a blaze of glory (pun intended).

Exactly. I hope Champ gets his ring this year and can go out in style. We've been saying we could move him to Safety but with Nacho stepping up and Moore playing well, I think it would probably be better if we didn't resign Champ so that we could use that money to resign all these other dudes we need to. Now if Champ wanted to come back for 1 year deal, say $4M to try and win another ring, I could live with that. But it all depends on how he looks when he returns this year.

I think we want to resign (Harris, DRC, Woodyard, Nacho, Holliday, Beadles)

Those are the guys we have to resign. Ayers and Carter could be replaced. I think Jackson is ready to step up another level. He could take over that spot for Ayers and I'd also like to see how that DE we drafted last year looks in camp next year. Carter, I like certain things about his game. I like him to cover the smaller shifty WR's but he's a big time mismatch against the bigger guys these days like (Johnson, Bryant, Fitz, Jones, Green, etc.).

I would like to see how far along Kuper is too. If he's healthy, maybe sign him to a smaller contract for depth.

Did you see the secondary today? Champ is the best CB on the team and still one of the best in the NFL. You gonna cut Champ so you can re-sign DRC? Really?

I do wonder what we do with our tackle situation next year. Chris Clark has shown that he's a NFL caliber starting LT. Obviously, Clady already has shown he is one of the best LT in the NFL. Franklin does a very capable job at RT. Guess that's a good problem to have

Yes Denver does have maybe the three best tackles on a team.

We need to see him with someone other than manning. 1.5seconds average time he held the ball ... i think right there is a major reason to the low sack #'s. Im not saying hes crap. But i reserve the right to withhold judgement so far.

Ayers has 4.5 sacks through 5 games which means he's on pace for 14.5 this year. If he keeps up the pace (which he won't when Von comes back) he's not coming back here because another team is going to pay him far more than we will. I think all he needs is 9-10 to get out of our pay range.

IMO it goes

Woodyard

Chris Harris

Decker

DRC

Ayers

Beadles

Tony Carter

I didn't include ERFA simply because I think the team will not let go of Nacho and Holliday Road

Duke and Holliday Road will both be back, they are huge contributors and as ERFA they are really cheap.

You're probably right, but I'm not so sure. Ayers is finally getting some good coaching and sticking to a position more natural to his skillset. I think he's capable of being a pretty complete defensive end, albeit one whose strength is geared toward the run game.

With the emphasis put on the line over these past years it wouldn't surprise me to see Denver pay him like a starting DE. Dumervil's situation is not relevant, as his weakness against the run combined with his ridiculous salary to show him the door. Ayers is a more balanced combination of talents and won't cost anything near what Doom was making.
