Default No love for Champ

I've watched two different groups of talking heads today on NFL network & also ESPN talking about some of the things that Denver has overcome so far.

Obviously Miller is the key talking point. Much is made how Denvers D will only get better when he returns & how they've managed to go on without him so far.

Interestingly enough Champ being out wasn't mentioned ONCE in all three segments. Not one talking head even acknowledged that our future HOF CB has been out.

Just struck me as odd how invisible Champ seems to have become as of late.

That just gives you an idea about how well the secondary played in his absence. Elway, Fox and Del Rio have done an excellent job identifying and growing talent.

I'm interested to see his level of play when he gets back.

His days of being elite are behind him sadly, but he's still been tremendous the last few years. If he hasn't declined significantly then were looking like we have a tremendous starting trio of corners (the third CB is basically a starter these days)

Nice balance too, as each of the three has quite a different skillset.

The last impression Bailey left was getting torched repeatedly by Torrey Smith in the playoffs.

Your young CBs are pretty damn good. Honestly, I thiink Denver's defense is better with them starting.

We'll see. I could certainly see a scenario where if his injuries have caused a further decline in speed and change of direction that JDR will start using him as more of a Big Nickel and to take advantage of his outstanding tackling ability in space. Maybe start using him to bring pressure from the edge in exotic blitz packages. I think we're all curious to see how he recovers.

Freaking A right.............lets get rid of Harris too.

The people that don't deserve any respect are are those calling for us to cut Champ.......everybody has a bad day once in a while.

Grant you his came at a bad time but it happens.

He isn't done and is still better than all but 4-5 corners in this league.

Years ago a-holes proclaimed him done after a bad game against Bowe............next time out he shut BOWE out.

Some of you need to check yourselves before typing........

if he didn't choke on caulk in this biggest game of his life/career there wouldn't be any shiz to talk about. Great players rise to the occasion not fall flat like an underdone cake.

I would say that he didn't choke in the biggest game of his life.

It's sad that so called fans of the team would dump on Bailey, even if you do believe he's done. Show some ****ing respect rmsanger, you dismal spacker.

Boltaneer, it'll be interesting to see how Champ looks when he gets back compared to Carter, who while promising still gets picked on. I still think Champ can play at a pretty good level, just so long as he doesn't get matched up against speedsters who he just can't stay with. I expect that'll be DRC's job from here on.

Nice that we're not pinning our hopes on him though.

Champ is still our best CB, he just had one bad game last year.

I am not sure your first point is still true. I do agree with the last, though. He had one bad game, but almost every other Bronco except for Holiday did too.

Agreed. Not sure why so many people get upset by some pointing out that Champ is not the best CB in the league anymore, or that we MIGHT be just as good with the younger faster replacements.

Nobody is saying that they don't love Champ, or that he wasn't the greatest ever for a long time.....just that he's no longer what he was.

I guess we can call them "Champboners". Not quite the same ring as Tebowner, but you get my point.

Jesus.....I swear some would say you're "disrespecting" Champ if you still didn't want him starting at the age of 50.

In terms of skill and veteran savvyness, Champ is still the best. In terms of raw speed and ability to cover big, fast WR's w/o safety help, that goes to DRC.

I think Champs days as a shutdown corner are over - no more closing down 1/2 of the field single-handed. Thats ok though, because he still has some damn fine skills and is clearly an asset.

What exactly is "skill" if it's not "raw speed and ability to cover big, fast WR's w/o safety help"?

route recognition, setting up receivers and bait QB's, body control, ball skills, ability to quickly change direction (as opposed to straight line speed), hand-fighting, tackling, leadership, etc.

you know, the little stuff. The kind of stuff you learn after lining up against the NFL's best for the past decade.

Champ was great overall last year. I have no problem with him earning his respect when he comes back. He will.
