Default Denver, take note on how not to treat your fans

Seattle will dress undercover cops in 49er jerseys to get unruly Seattle fans.

Good. They probably don't even need to hire them, just announce it....

Completely agree, and it would be awesome if the whole thing was just a bluff. I had a horrible experience at Mile High back in '08 with a girl who is a big Chiefs fan. She cheered and clapped for about fifteen minutes until a guy two rows behind her began to loudly mimic and harass her. When I told him to shut up he claimed that I was just as bad as she was for bringing her to the game, and proceeded to throw peanut shells at the two of us for the rest of the game. Eventually she started crying during the fourth quarter, which he again loudly made fun of. Dude was hammered, but that's the closest I've ever come to fighting a stranger in public and just thinking about it makes me angry all over again.

I'm all about this announcement, provided they don't cramp the people just having fun with rival fans.

That sounds like that guy was a dick. Especially throwing garbage. I would have probably said something. That said, there is etiquette for opposing team fans. The ones who are being really loud and extra supportive are going to piss their neighbors off. I used to go to BYU games at Air Force and CSU and we tried to be a bit more reserved.

Back when Seattle started it's 12th man thing a couple years ago I thought it was cool. They have not had an easy time of it up there though they were in a SB what some 5-7 years ago?

So when the fans would get into it and cheer and have fun it was ok.

Sadly now they are taking the thugish attitude of the team on the field into the stands and becoming douches.

You want to cheer real loud and help amp up your team, great! You start pushing other people around and being obnoxious about it get a life.

I went to a Dallas game in 2008 and it was not good a couple of drunks were constantly harassing my 15 year-old step daughter. I said I was not going back to texas stadium again.

Dare I say the real culprit to this problem? Cut the alcohol off and you cut off 98% of the bs. But we know that ain't happening.

I guess I don't necessarily see why they need to have undercover cops to entrap their own fans. If someone is in a 49ers jersey and is just sitting there quietly and a Seahawks fan throws a beer at him or keeps swearing, the Yellow Jackets will get them just as quick.

Isn't that entrapment and illegal?

Right, but if the undercover officer tries to provoke them (verbally...I am not talking about a jersey here) then it is. Now whether that's illegal in Seattle or not is unknown to me, but.....

The Seattle Seahawks reserve the right to throw anyone out for any reason. It's not a criminal thing so entrapment doesn't really apply.

Really though the cop probably wants to just watch the football game. I doubt too many are going to pick a fight just to be able to force someone to watch an online video course and have to walk them to the parking lot. I bet there are fewer than a handful of real ones and the rest of this is a fear motivated thing.

Not in the legal sense, but then it's something else entirely. It's a private business trying to provoke people. There could be arguments for some nice civil cases.

Where in that article did you read the word 'provoke'?

No. Entrapment is if you actively request someone to do something illegal. Having a cop pose as a prostitute or drug dealer is also not illegal.

Entrapment

The act of government agents or officials that induces a person to commit a crime he or she is not previously disposed to commit.

Entrapment is a defense to criminal charges when it is established that the agent or official originated the idea of the crime and induced the accused to engage in it. If the crime was promoted by a private person who has no connection to the government, it is not entrapment. A person induced by a friend to sell drugs has no legal excuse when police are informed that the person has agreed to make the sale.

It's not entrapment if they announce that they are doing it. They are making it public info for anyone to read. I doubt they really even did it and as another poster mentioned just said they were going to do this.

I believe the theory is like conceal carry....assault at your own risk. If you have no idea if that's an SF fan or a cop Seattle thugs might resist assaulting them...because it becomes not only assault, but assault on a police officer.

But if we had good policing then there shouldn't be any assaulting going on and people wouldn't need to pack heat to feel safe.

Well until I'm assigned my own cop to protect me, I'll just go with what works for me.
