Default Broncos Mt. Rushmore

Didn't see this posted:

Broncos Mt. Rushmore coming Friday

Posted by Mike Florio on June 19, 2013, 7:27 PM EDT

The Mt. Rushmore process moves to the AFC West on Friday, with the team that has won the division the last two years.

The Broncos, who once won a pair of Super Bowls with John Elway on the field, is now shooting for another one (or more) with Elway running the football operation.

It’s a given that Elway will have one of the spots. Vote for him and up to three others from the 12 finalists below.

We’ll pull the sheet off the mountain, as we always do, on NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk.

Who's on your Broncos' Mt. Rushmore?

Steve Atwater
Champ Bailey
Pat Bowlen
Terrell Davis
John Elway
Randy Gradishar
Tom Jackson
Floyd Little
Karl Mecklenburg
Mike Shanahan
Shannon Sharpe
Rod Smith

Floyd Little - first superstar player we ever had
Randy Gradishar - best defensive player in Broncos history
John Elway - No explanation needed
Gerald Phipps - ponied up the cash twice to prevent the Broncos from relocating to first San Antonio and then Atlanta Why he's not on the list is beyond me.

I like all but I would swap out Kaiser for Phipps. The Broncos are defined then and now by a guy named Elway thanks to the backroom dealings of Kaiser

That's an easy one. The Broncos have 4 players enshrined in Canton:

Elway
Sharpe
Zimmerman
Little

There you go...

Without Phipps there wouldn't have been the Denver Broncos for Little or Elway or even Kaiser

Yep...There is a reason Phipps is in the Ring of Fame, which IMO is the only place these choices can come from.

This would be my list as well.

Honorable mention to:

Kaiser/Irsay ()/Bowlen
Shanahan/Reeves
Terrell Davis
Steve Atwater
Dennis Smith
Tom Jackson
Shannon Sharpe

The bolded are locks I think. And I'd agree with Gradishar on the 4th. Him or Atwater imo.

Edit: That 4th spot could go a number of directions.

i have to put TD over Little. yes, Little was the first superstar of this franchise and the main reason a franchise remains in Denver, but without TD, there are no super bowl wins.

another myth..... Little was not why the Broncos remained in Denver..... Gerald Phipps not once, but twice ponied up the money to keep the franchise from relocating.

- Elway
- Bowlen

Sharpe actually was the better player between he and Little....but, Little was the best of a generation. TD was the greatest for 3-4yrs...but, he was 3rd of that generation with Elway/Sharpe being 1
and 2.

Bowlen has always fielded a competitive team......5 AFC Championships, 2 Superbowl Championships. One of the best owners ever!

Gradishar was the Denver Broncos during the Orange Crush years....he was the face of the franchise and superior to those Steelers LB's who are all in the HOF!
