Don't EVER forget what this weekend is about. There are never enough "thank yous" for the men and women who paid the ultimate price...

This is sarcasm.

Apparently it needs to be pointed out.

Sometimes sarcasm is inappropriate.

Thank you to all the brave men and women and their families who sacrifice so much for our country! We are proud of you, your selflessness and bravery will never be forgotten! Stand strong, and God Bless!

Ah, STFU. Why did you feel that was necessary? Anyway, I didn't make the ultimate sacrifice, but I put in six years to the Army so you're welcome. I was proud to do so.

Based on your ignorant comment, joking or not, you haven't spent a day of your life in the Military. Its so easy to sit behind your computer typing out ignorant BS when you're not the one putting your life on the line. You have no clue what it's like to be away from your family for months at a time in harms way.

Btw...I'll be leaving my wife and new born daughter for Afghanistan in a week.

My father would go to pieces each time he heard that song. Anyway, my mother will be going to the Korean Memorial tomorrow, which is just south of Portland, to lay flowers at his grave. God bless our troups, past & present.

Thank you to the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and even the men and women who serve in firefighting, search and rescue and law enforcement for your willingness to put yourselves in harms way for our betterment.

I proudly fly my flag everyday in honor of those who served especially those who were POW/MIA and/or paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

My husband's not grilling today... I'll be making a nice dinner for when he gets home from all of the ceremonies he's spending the entire day doing with the local American Legion post. Dunno about in other areas but here, our veterans' associations are needing every member they can get as each year brings the loss of more of the old-timers who have been stalwarts of the group.

Oh, and.... Semper Fi, Dad. I miss you!

Your right, my father in-law is a member and they do lots of stuff with and for the VFW but he said no one post 'Nam is joining anymore.

Very sad. I would think if I were a vet I would want a place to go to share experiences.

The veterans' organizations do a lot for veterans... from providing honor guards at military funerals to holding ceremonies for Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Veterans' Day to fundraisers to help veterans, it all requires work. Like today, they did ceremonies at 3 local cemeteries and needed people to put flags on graves and to fire the rifles for the 21-gun salutes. It's nice when younger veterans do participate, but I know for a fact that our local groups are doing everything they can to increase membership and at that, only a small fraction of the members actually attend meetings or help with funerals, etc. Major props though to those who do.

This whole thread makes me nauseous. Our military is purely mercenary and hasn't been used to "protect our freedom" since the 40's. It's just a tool that the corporate world uses to get its way in impoverished countries, nothing more.

(There, now you have something to really flame instead of Bacchus' joke.)

The sad thing is how many people lost thier lives fighting for your right, among others, to say such an ignorant and insensitive comment.

The sad thing is how many people like yourself swallow that nonsense by the gallon. Our military hasn't fought for anything other than corrupt political interests for 70 years.

Your ignorance & bigotry is astounding. You have been asked, then told, to take your political views, as warped as they are, to another thread. This is a thread giving thanks to our military, including WW11 vets. When you stomp on any vets, you stomp on them.

Please learn the gift of decency, I know that may be a foreign word to you, and get off this thread. Take it to the war threads. I'm sure you will find company there.

Actually I would say that our government, and by extension our military, have completely betrayed what WWII vets fought for, but whatever, I'm just a "bigot".
