Renowned Republican pollster Frank Luntz on Monday had a brutally honest take on the GOP's central platform plank.

Luntz said the party's focus on the size of the federal government, rather than its overall effectiveness and efficiency, makes for a poor message.

“The American people don’t care what the size of government is,” Luntz said during an appearance on "Fox & Friends." "They do care what types of services government gives and, quite frankly, how much government takes.”

It's the second time in a month that Luntz has aimed public criticism at the right, with the messaging guru arguing in late-December that the National Rifle Association was out of step with the American public.

Nothing is going the gops' way.

Which changes nothing. They can, and will, block anything that doesn't fit their reactionary ideology. The country is being held hostage. As long as it is, we will remain in this recession.

I'm always arguing with the Norquist acolytes that we should want good government, not cheap government. They conflate the two.

The joke is on the GOP dummies. Had Gore been elected, the government would have been streamlined and reduced considerably, something he was very successful with under Clinton. Instead, they cheated to put the all-hat-no-cattle cowboy in the WH and he went on a drunken binge. They have nobody but themselves to blame.

The joke is on the people. The formula for success in Washington is to make promises to the people, but keep promises to the lobbyists. Otherwise, you can't get to the top and stay there. Gore wouldn't have been any different from the other "choices" we've had this millennium: Gore, Bush, Kerry, McCain, and Romney. That's all we've had to choose from. Do you trust any of them?
