They may not have a championship, but that does not mean that they "dont have anything on the Lakers". They do this season. The Lakers might make the playoffs. Dallas might win the west. Dallas might win the championship. Dallas is better now and is stacked for the future due to some brilliant front office moves. Capwise and playerwise, Dallas has an extremely bright future.
What's really funny is that LA could have had that future, but they chose not to deal with Mark and Donnie out of arrogance and rivalry. It's funny to hear them whine now because Mark was ready to deal with them and they thought that they couldnt use what he offered. Dallas has used what he offered to build a young team with an extremely bright future. Remeber, Dirk is just entering his prime. He just turned 27. They have a young core of Dirk, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Marquis Daniels, DJ Mbenga, and Pavel Podkolzine. That team as it stands is competitive for championships for the next 4-5 seasons. You bring Van Horn, Stackhouse, and Dampier into the mix and you have an outstanding team of young guys and vets that are determined to improve all the time. Avery Johnson is here for the long haul too. Things are looking bright.
Dallas will be excellent for the next 3-5 seasons because of what the Lakers turned down. It's good to be a Mav right now.
