My agency is hiring like crazy. U.S. Border Patrol.
If you're under 37, min. HS grad (college is even better) with a clean record, physicaly fit and have the ability to learn a foreign language (Spanish in particular), the pay and bennies with the Federal Gov. are good. Prior military and/or police background is also very good.
After certification via tests and boards, all agents go through a five and a half month academy. After the academy, the new agent is assigned somewhere on the southwest border of the U.S. (of course, unlike when I joined, the agents now have a choice of state for their initial assignment), meaning California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas. Some places are excellent (Tucson, Yuma, Sonoita, San Angelo, Las Cruces, Port Isabel), some are great to live in albiet expensive (San Diego), while other locales are pure holes (Ajo, Rio Grande City, Precidio, or Douglass).
