Seems to me this city was already raging with Broncomania back then and 77 just put things over the top.

The love afair that the city had with the team, started from the beginning. However, I think the Broncomania that erupted in this town really began in 1976. The Broncos went 9-5 that year, and needed the Patriots (I believe, that's what my dad said) to lose their final game to grab the Wild Card playoff spot. There was a huge buzz that John Ralston was trying to get a veteran QB, which became Craig Morton, and then he was fired after the trade was made. That 1977 Orange Crush defense is still one of the best of all time, and yet the HOF still keeps snubbing Gradishar, BT, TJ, and Louis Wright from their rightful places in Canton.
