I'm one of the "thongs are comfortable, if you have to wear underwear" kinda gals. So go ahead and fire away the questions again...I have limited my underwear purchases to either thongs or lacey cute things since I was 19, so for 5 years now. Thongs are just more comfortable for me, and MT, your friend was right -- the thinner the strap the more comfy they typically are.
