Is it really "this many"? What percentage of Republican party members (as opposed to other Republican hangers-on) are represented by the list, and over what period of time?
If those 45 individuals were concentrated in the last few years (which they are not, as the Schwarzenegger and Thurmond incidents are decades old), and if they were all elected (which they are not) and if none had been convicted and imprisoned (most were), and that despite these crimes, these individuals were held as leaders and exemplars of the GOP (it's not at all clear that's the case) then you might have a point. If all the above were true (which they are not), then the GOP is rotten to the core and needs a wholesale cleaning and a total revamp.
What's closer to the truth is that out of millions of Republicans over some years (if not decades) 45 (at most, not counting the rumors and allegations, as opposed to proof) were scumbags, and beneath contempt for what they've done. That's not a big percentage, really.
If you want to take that as an excuse on my part, or a lessening of the evil acts of the list, or something like that, that's your choice, Spider. But, in the bigger picture, this list doesn't condemn Republicans any more than it condemns men, or white men (most are white, I would assume), or middle-aged guys (most were in that age group). As such, it's not really indicative of much of anything - in a group of individuals that large, there will always be some scum.
