I get your point, but I don't think we needed to see Anakin in a 20 minute speeder race, or his problems at home as a kid, to get the point. If Palpatine had noticed Anakin in Attack of the Clones, and planted the seed at that point, it would have had the same affect in my opinion. In Menace there was really only one scene that showed Palpatine having interest in Anakin. At the very end I think he said he would be keeping an eye Anakin. They didn't have to waste an entire two hours for that one moment. The only thing Menace accomplished was it showed the beginning stages of Palpatine's master plan. But they could have accomplished that in Clones.
Anyway it we slice, they owe us 2 hours. I'll take it in "Star Wars, Episode 3.5, The Other Two Hours."
