Denver Broncos defensive end Trevor Pryce will be out about five more weeks after he has surgery today to remove a fragment of a disc in his back.
Pryce's agent Peter Schaffer said the procedure, which will be performed by Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles, is a microscopic discectomy. The surgery will remove a part of the disc in Pryce's back, which has caused him lower back pain and sapped the strength in his right leg over the past few weeks.
The Broncos said they expect Pryce to miss four-to-six weeks. Schaffer said Pryce could return for Denver's Oct. 31 game against Atlanta, a timetable that would have Pryce missing five more games.
"We're hoping he'll be back by the Halloween game," Schaffer said.
Late Oct. turned into late Dec. which lead to nothing in Jan. When dealing with a back it's tricky.
