Of course the talk about Pryce is a trade tactic. Obviously we aren't getting what we are asking for. This is because of all the hoopla the Denver media has made over Denver wanting to clear room under the cap. So what are teams doing? They are trying to starve you by making you wait. I think in the grand scheme of things, our front office thought we would have shipped out Pryce and we would have done more things in FA to this point in the process. When teams started making us hold on to Pryce, we didn't land some of the players we wanted and now the front office is back pedaling a bit.
With that all being said, if i'm in the front office i'm in no way trying to push Trevor out the door. To me, if you are looking for a impact defensive lineman in the offseason to add to this team just look at Trevor Pryce. He's better then anybody we can get out on the market. Let him come back and play to prove to teams hes in great shape and is still a good player. Then, maybe try to trade him next year.
As for what Shanahan said about Courtney Brown, I completely agree. I've seen him play and I've seen him be very disruptive. IF IF IF IF he can stay healthy he'll be a great addition to any team. He is very underated in terms of what kind of play he can bring to another team. Thats good for us, hopefully we can sign him.
I think the idea with the Broncos is that we need to remake our DT position to get interior pocket pressure. We've done the outside pocket pressure with guys like Berry and Hayward and it has not worked well. Its too easy to take a great DE out of the game vs. a great DT especially with the pocket passers we have in our conference. IF you want to beat Indy or NE you are going to have to collapse the pocket from the inside and make Manning, Brady, ect. move around. Our outside pass rush is easily replicated moving to this hybrid three four with guys like Anton Palepoi, Chuk, and probably another draft pick. Pressure inside moves the QB out and hopefully that will translate into more sacks and better success.
I'm lining up and saying that I think our LB's are going to be great. I like Gold even if nobody else really does. I remember seeing a buzz about our defense a couple years ago when it was Gold's first full season starting at LB. Our guys were ball hawking and shutting opposing rushing offenses down. And now it seems that Shanahan has an idea to use our speed greatly on 3rd downs.
I'm relieved to see what some of the planning includes and we are actually still a 4-3 based defense. FINALLY, some answers. Of course we still have more talent to pick up. This is a start though and I'm excited to see what our coaching and players will do next year.
