You are 100% right. Money was the biggest reason why the Lakers let Shaq go. He had two years left on his deal, that would have paid him $60 million. Then he wanted another $90 million ontop of that. All this money for a guy that was way out of shape, and hadn't been dominant for the past two years. If they gave Shaq what he wanted they would have to pay him $30 million when he was at the ages of 36, 37, and 38. That's insane. That's like Phil Jackson wanting a pay raise from $6 million to $12 million. Both of those guys are nuts for asking for that. When they didn't get it they wanted out, knowing they could use Kobe as the scapegoat. I'm not about to make the case that Kobe is some type of victim and shouldn't get any of the blame. He did some stupid stuff and he is one of the reasons why the Lakers broke up. But Shaq and Phil are getting a free pass that they shouldn't be getting, while Kobe takes all the blame. Shaq and Phil are coming out of this like they are victims. All three of those guys should take equal blame in the break up.
If they did give Shaq that extension, they still could have given Kobe his $136 million.
