Sure he wanted out of there. It wasn't the money, it was Kobe. And Kobe and everyone can spin it every which way they want but Kobe is the primary reason Shaq isn't there anymore and part of the reason Phil isn't. Kobe is running that team and hopefully it's right into the ground.
If the Lakers had given him the $90 million extension that he so badly wanted, he would still be a Laker. There is no question about that. But they offered him about $65 million, and he laughed at it. If he had taken the Lakers offer he would have remained the highest player in the NBA. Spin it how you want to, but money was the biggest factor. If money wasn't a factor, then why was Shaq complaining about the money the entire year?
