I think in one of the millions of Star Wars books that exist, one of them says a Dark Jedi crash landed and died there a long time ago (no remarks). His "presence" remains, and with Yoda being a good Jedi they cancel each other out making his presence undetectable to Vader and Palpatine, or something along those lines.
But that wouldn't explain why they didn't know about Obi-Wan.
I believe that was Yavin, the moon that the Rebels launched their assault from in Star Wars IV. I think that there was books later on where Luke setup his new Jedi academy there and one of his apprentices got drawn to the dark side by a spirit of an old Sith Jedi.
Not sure on anything about what the deal was on Yoda's planet. I just thought that Yoda lived there because the massive life force there helped him survive and gave him more power. But there may be a book or something in the next movie that explains how Yoda ended up on Swamp world.
Am I a Star Wars geek or just misinformed??
