Where should Bush administration go from here?
Despite the protestations from the loony wing, Bush is President. What major things should he and his administration undertake? My list:
1) Get Iraq fixed. We've made a far bigger mess there than necessary, and despite what Kerry said, I think we're in it more-or-less by ourselves. France et.al. ain't gonna give us squat, militarily or politically. We need to cap this insurgency via brute force as appropriate, enticements as they will work. Make sure the January elections are credible enough - don't let big chunks of Iraq boycott/fail to participate since that will remove any cred the new government will have. Kill that bastard al-Zarqawi. Now.
2) Kill Osama. Do what it takes.
3) Clarify the legal status of the Guantanamo detainees. Keeping them in deliberate legal limbo does not endear us to civilized people. Follow the Geneva conventions to the letter - try these guys in US civil courts, not military tribunals.
4) Make fiscal restraint a reality - we gotta clear up the deficit, not by raising taxes, but by controlling spending. The prescription drug benefit was a HUGE step in the WRONG direction. Work on getting started cleaning up the impending Medicare/SS mess - time is running very short.
Just some ideas off the top of my head.
