It's never going to happen thugh, not as long as the Yankees and Red Sox are up in the salary. They want the rivalry, they are going to do whatever possible to make sure the Yankees and the Red Sox battle it out for 1sat place in the division, and battle it out in the ALCS every year.
They'd also have to do away with the guaranteed contracts, something the players union will never agree to. It would only work bad for teams who have players locked up for 7-10 years to have to cut due to salary but still have to pay it to them.
All a pipe dream, but something I'm still dreaming for...
I'm all for a cap too. I don't like seeing NY in the playoffs every year. Other cities have loyal fans too....for now. The longer they have no chance their numbers will dwindle. Teams like the Pirates, Brewers, Royals, Devil Rays need planetary alignment to make the playoffs.
The Yankees throw money at every free agent they wany and fix every midseason hole with a ton of dough.
I know I won't get any sympathy as a fan of a team with a $130 million payroll, but it's no fun playing for the Wild Card every year either.
I say make it fair for everyone.
