Enjoyed the read, but he really doesn't understand Moneyball at all, it's not using stats to find better players (although he is right that in baseball you can use stats much more easily than football), but finding undervauled-ness. To put it into football example, if the entire league is moving to big, but slow guys, then those guys will command the big contracts and you might be able to find an advantage in signing smaller, yet faster players who are out of favor at the moment.

For a real world example - Shanahan basically had this when we went with the zone blocking scheme and were able to pretty much draft any OL we wanted in the late rounds. As more teams copied our success, the price ($ and draft position) went up.
