It doesn't "matter", but it's part of setting the scene. A writer/print journalist is painting a picture for the reader and this is part of the picture. It's not just "a house", it's "a $1.3 million house". Puts a slightly different image/perspective in the readers' minds.
So Hernandez having a house worth $1.3 million dollars sets the "scene" for a murder that did not happen AT the house?
