I'm a Tigers fan, but George Brett is one of my all time favorite players.
He looks like he is infusing the team with some energy and appears to be having a blast working with the players.
I was 8 years old when he hit .390 in 1980 and remember looking at the box scores every day in the newspaper to see what he did the previous night....of course ESPN was in it's infancy back then (we didn't have cable anyway back then) and it was well before the Internet age and 24/7/365 information overload....so when I was a kid, I relied on the daily box scores, the weekly installment of TWIB, and Tigers games on the radio.
Everyone was talking about Brett after the All Star break. I remember exactly being driven somewhere and at the bottom of the street, the Angels' radio announcer said he would have to go 6 for 8 or 8 for 8 on the last day to hit .400. That was such a magical year and only Boggs and Gwynn could even come close to hitting .400 .
