Justin Verlander is a notoriously slow starter.
It's not like he gave up all 7 runs against the Yankees....his line wasn't that bad:
7.1 innings pitched, 7 hits, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 Ks
He is 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 11 Ks in 12.1 innings pitched.
It's was about 40 degrees in his first start and 50 degrees in his 2nd start.
JV usually kicks it into gear about May when it starts to warm up a bit.
