Android is the overall name of the operating system (all versions), and it would apply to phones from any number of carriers.

Droid was the name of the first Android phone to launch on Verizon.

And Verizon tends to put the name "Droid" in front of all its key Android phones. It is a trademark special to Verizon -- has been put on phones made by Motorola, HTC, etc.

So all Droids are Android phones, but not all Android phones are Droid.

Life is easier if you just drop the term "Droid" from your vocabulary. It has become meaningless and confusing.
