I use 91 in my passat because it is a turbo-charged engine. Most cars dont need the higher octane fuel... it all depends on the temperature the engine burns the gas at.

My uncle is an auto engineer and he'll tell you the right kind of fuel. Ninety percent of the time, 85 is fine... but some engines require the higher octane.
