Craft and stick to a schedule that fits all aspects of your life. Find out and come to terms with you being good or bad at handling multiple duties at once and or multitasking. Create a priority system. Work before play.

If you're in creative media, especially games or film, realize that the industry is largely about fact many industries are. Even dating the best friend of the daughter of an executive can lead to a job. Who you know is just as important as how good you are at your craft. Once you're in though, don't be cynical and remember that every friendship you make could pay dividends down the road. Don't be an a-hole if you're that kind of person. Only the people on top have the leverage to get away with it. The world is politics and favors those with foresight.
