I thought we learned from Clinton that what a president did in his past does not matter. The exception is Kerry only BECAUSE he's primarily running his campaign as a war hero. He's not running on his Senate record. Therefore, it's fair game to examine his war hero credentials. Bush should be examined on the basis of the last 4 years.
It would be a blatant double standard to say that only one candidate's Vietnam-era service is at issue. Recent reviews of Bush's records do appear to indicate that he was at least AWOL, if not a wartime deserter.
