Cut the deficit in half over four years by ending corporate tax cuts.
and if those companies make less money, because of higher taxes, or heaven help us, go out of business, they won't pay more taxes after all. not to mention that the thousands of lost jobs means less income tax collected, and more burden on the govt. for welfare, medicaid, unemployment, etc. we're going to come up with trillions in corporate tax cuts? are they going to be any businesses left in this country besides Walmart? what happens when Walmart stops taking food stamps, and nobody's left with a job?
Offer targeted tax breaks for the middle class; roll back tax cuts to people earning over $200,000 a year.
sure, but still cut the deficit by soaking the companies that employ the Middle Class. making more liberal puppets unemployed and dependent on the government.
Close tax loopholes to companies moving jobs abroad and give breaks to firms keeping good-paying jobs at home.
raise taxes to pay companies to keep jobs here. sure, sounds like a good idea. but it's terribly inefficient. anyone with a rudimentary understanding of economics. and any real study done on this, only shows that by keeping jobs here through government subsidies (tax breaks for corporations, which they hammer the republicans for repeatedly) we are preventing these companies from competing in the new global market. protectionism increases the costs of products here, and makes us unable to compete with other products in the export market, except through taxpayer money.
Pledge not to privatize Social Security or to cut benefits.
this is IMPOSSIBLE! in 10 years, social security will either A) be a shadow of it former self, or B) be gone entirely, UNLESS: the 30% of people collecting SocSec that DON'T need it (the rich old ladies and other millionaires) are yanked off the dole, AND something is done to get a better than 2% return on moneys controlled by the SocSec organization. This is another lame and obvious pandering for the silly old people vote, who are terrified of the evil drug companies and are more liberal puppets wholely dependent upon their benevolent politicians to keep sending them checks.
Invest in new technology and alternative fuels to lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
Bush has talked alot more specifically about doing this. And he's actually done it.
Pledge never lead the United States into a preemptive war.
yeah, ok, whatever. this is a cheap shot. especially considering that Kerry voted for this pre-emptive war in the first place.
Immediately implement the recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission and reform intelligence gathering.
this is ALREADY BEING DONE. but thanks for caring.
Rebuild alliances with other nations.
how, why, and which nations. is there any evidence that our allies are not STILL out allies, even if they don't like us trying to clean up Iraq? we still have plenty of solid alliances with other nations. Fra/Ger/Rus are seriously overrated in terms of relevance and importance on the global stage. Their economies are a fraction of ours, and their influence is more due to their history and brand-name than due to any real presense in the business world or militarily. we shouldn't base our foreign policy on what a couple of corrupt politicians in near-communist liberal countries think.
Ensure the United States would lead the global effort against nuclear proliferation.
yeah, and what's Bush doing now? selling nukes? encouraging nuclear proliferation? would K, like Clinton, allow lax security of national secrets such as nuclear technology, as well as sending money to North Korea because they 'promised' they wouldn't build nukes, whereafter they went ahead and started building nukes? how would we lead this global effort any more than we already have? and what's Kerry going to say to the Shah of Iran and lil Kim in N Korea? please stop making nukes, or I'm going to sic Jimmy Carter on you?
Add 40,000 active-duty troops; double the number of U.S. Special Forces.
where these troops coming from, huh? to accomplish this we either need to
a) increase government spending significantly, say, by a 100 billion dollars. we need to give people some incentive to sign up and get shot-up, and that costs money.
b) relax standards in training camp more than they already have been, so that are troops are unfit, unprepared, and ineffective
where else we going to get 40,000 people? maybe we can start outsourcing the military, bring in Indians and the Chinese, just like all these evil corporations are doing.
and doubling the size of the special forces? how's he going to do that, and who's going to pay for it? his corporate tax increases that will kill jobs and hamstring the economy? sure, if enough people lose their jobs, a good portion of them might realize the only decent wage they can get is by joining the military..... maybe that's the plan
End the militarys heavy reliance on National Guard and military reservists.
how? 40,000 troops (from his ass apparently) are going to replace 250,000 Guard and reservist troops? this is not even possible. it's sounds nice though. and will win him plenty of votes from people that signed up for the guard, collected a check for 5, 10, or 20 years, and now with they weren't called to duty after signing up for the extra cash.
Offer incentives that would save families $1,000 a year on health insurance costs; allow Americans to buy prescription drugs from countries like Canada.
fine. I can take another edit to the tax code for some health insurance benefit, even though all health insurance expenses are already tax deductible. my 'family' doesn't spend close to $1,000 a year on health insurance as it is, so I don't know how he's going to 'save' me money I'm not even spending right now.
and allowing Americans to buy drugs from other countries? this will kill ALL private R&D spending on any medical research anywhere. the high profitability of the 1-in-a-million drug that makes it through the 10 years of FDA requirements is what pays for the other 5 million drugs that didn't make it.
you want a cure for cancer? AIDS? alchoholism? alzheimers? heart disease? Too BAD. this idea will buy him lots of votes, and KILL the drug industry. maybe you think taxes should pay for drug research, and we should just raise taxes so drugs can be cheaper. but without the incentives that patents and capitalism make possible in this country, there is no reason to develop new drugs. just because the rest of the world piggybacks on our unique economy for which all drugs are designed to begin with, doesnt' mean we should throw away our model because people think viagra and trimspa cost too much. this is a BAD idea folks. old people like it because it's too late for drug research to help them. in 20 years they'll be gone, and we'll be dying of the same stuff they did, because no one wanted to pay for the research to cure this stuff.
anyhow. I'm quite disgusted at the ignorance and obvious pandering of this 'platform'. this is bad for the future, bad for the economy, bad for the public health, and bad for every American with a job. it's a pure move to buy votes from the ignorant, and the elderly, who are a powerful voting lobby that already get way too much money and attention from politicians. there are poor elderly folk that need Medicare, Social Security, and affordable prescription drugs. but there are alot of old folks with piles of money that still take full soc-security benefits and drug benefits and everything else they can get the government to pay for, and it's not helping us balance the budget any......
figured I'd share.
