MissI. 4 wheel drive is certainly nice for winter driving but the reality is it's not worth a damn if you don't have the right snow tires in tough icy conditions. I've seen plenty of macho men in ditches with their big ass trucks while 2 wheel drive hondas zip by with good snow tires. Recommend blizzaks in snow packed/icy conditions. Not sure what the roads are like in NJ. I'd imagine you'll encounter all types of road surfaces. I'm sure a good quality all weather with a two wheel drive would work fine.
Depending on where she moves in Jersey if the weather is foul it is time to use mass transit if it is available .. Keep the car for pleasure time..
Stay off the roads in foul weather.. as you said there are a lot of morons on the road in their awd cars that cause more trouble than they can stay out of..
