I most certainly do "have an argument"... the bottom line is: don't get a pet unless you can provide food, water, necessary veterinary care, and a safely-contained environment for said pet. And if you fail to provide the secure environment for the pet (which is your responsibility), then it is partly your fault if something unfortunate happens to the pet because it escapes and goes where it shouldn't be.
