I see what you're saying.
I was never a particular fan of his (probably through a lack of exposure) so it wouldn't have been accurate for me to say one of MY all time greats but somewhere in between. I do agree that for things like the HOF, personal matters probably shouldn't come into consideration.
But, in the end, had he not taken time off for his drug use and had kept on his game like he was in the beginning, he very well could've been one of the best ever statistically.
