I was about to suggest what Maverick did.
My first screen was actually a wall that I first used Kilz on and then painted a neutral grey based on a recipe from AVS. I then used black velvet-like tape (can't remember the name) that they use on production stages to tape together black cloth during filming. It both creates a clean border on the screen and is non reflective, which you won't for the bleed over area of the projected image.
Now I have a screen from Carada, which is a good quality screen that doesn't break the bank.
