I just hit 40 so I'm finally starting to see movies I remembered as a kid get redone. Russel Brand was born to play Arthur so I get it. I doubt Red Dawn will be any good but I'll reserve judgement until I see it.
Let's go back to True Grit for a second.....I saw the original in the early 90's because I dig Westerns but that's not typical. I happened to love the original & the remake but I get how there is an entire generation out there that think it shouldn't have been remade. And there's another generation that couldn't sit through the original version if you paid them.
Bridge On the River Kwai is one of my all time favorite movies. To me it's iconic but I'd still love to see a modern version. WWII was all the rage in TV, movies & video games a few years ago so I say why not? But people who saw the original release when they were 30 probably hold it sacred because they were 15 during the war.
Same way my generation doesn't want to see The Breakfast Club or Ferris get remade anytime soon. But 20 years from now we will all give a wink and a nod when our Grand-kids think Breakfast Club 2030 is the best movie ever b/c it relates to their high school lives so much.

I believe Miss I said something about there only being 7 story ideas that exist, with every bit of literature/theater/movie taking a unique twist on one of the 7 ideas. The issue now is reboots and remakes are little more than a way to make easy money for the studio that undertakes it. In 25 years, they will remake Saving Private Ryan or Braveheart or Schindler's List. Not because they feel the movies are not finely made or deserve a remake, but because they can make money off of it.
I am willing to wager that right now some freak at Universal or 20th Century are Bronco fans, see this thread and decide that hey, Ferris Bueller 2 would be awesome. But lets make it so Ferris is a lesbian stuck in a Catholic School who pretends to be sick to go meet her GF and her mopey Emo best friend who may or may not be a hermaphrodite. Totally updating a classic...
Shenanigans, I say. There is nothing new under the sun, but that does not mean you have to remake the same **** over and over and over.
