Richard Seymour agrees to new contract with Raiders

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 16, 2011, 11:39 AM EST

Richard Seymour is sticking with the Oakland Raiders.

Seymour, the defensive tackle whose contract expired at the end of the 2010 season, has agreed to a new contract with the Raiders, according to multiple reports.

The terms of the new contract are not yet known. Jim Trotter of reports that it’s a two-year deal with $22.5 million in guarantees and the potential to make $30 million. But Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that it’s a four-year deal.

Seymour has said he expects to remain in Oakland and this deal appears to fulfill that expectation. It also means the Raiders won’t need to use the franchise tag to hold onto Seymour. Oakland may now use the franchise tag on tight end Zach Miller.

The Raiders acquired Seymour in a trade with the Patriots before the 2009 season. New England reaceived Oakland’s first-round pick (No. 17 overall) in this year’s NFL draft.
