Not to knock BB's talent, but I was always WAY more impressed by blues guitarists like Albert King, Albert Collins, et al. Those guys were better than BB but didn't get as much recognition simply because their business chops weren't as good.
You know whose the best King of all IMO, Freddie King. That dude had some chops that IMO were beyond what BB had. BB IMO though lived longer then all the other dudes, which makes him I think more of the icon.
Also BB like you said was just out there marketing himself and also playing tons and tons of gigs.
Hell I've seen him live like 3-4 times without even trying. Seems like he's always playing.
We love covering all those cats though because they all loved to be backed up by horns. I really dig the whole rocking type anthem blues with big horns and BB always put that sort of stuff out there.
