Nope... all wood kits - the only way to go.
Once you factor in everything, 4-5 grand is what you'd pay for a MODEST top-of-the line kit. I mean the shells will run you $2,000 ... $300 for a good pedal, another $300 for a hi-hat stand ... and $300 avg for cymbals and another $100 for cymbal stands.
That said, make sure you get maple shells, or possibly birch, but make sure the birch is good. None of the Poplar crap.
Of course, you could get one of those $400 beginners sets with the $200 cymbal pack, but you'll be buying a whole new kit after a couple of years.
