Thursday, June 28, 2007

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Ron Francis, an integral part of the Penguins 1991 and 1992 Stanley Cup teams, has been voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, hall officials announced today.

Francis, a center, scored 1,798 points, fourth all-time in NHL history. Francis played in the league for 23 years, playing with Hartford, Pittsburgh, Carolina and Toronto.

Also voted into the hall in Toronto were Mark Messier, the NHL's second-leading career scorer, Al MacInnis and Scott Stevens. NHL executive Jim Gregory was voted in as a builder.

The induction ceremony for the Hall, which allows a maximum of four players in each year, will be held Nov. 12.
