The other observation is the Dharma project (Department of Heuristics And Research on Material Applications Initiative) was a former test that was being done on the island as well. There was a conversation that took place several episodes early with 'eye patch guy' that eluded to the idea of a run in between the others and the Dharma Initiative people.
I have to wonder if, after the plane went down (whether designed by "the others" or not) that they had the means to cover up the crash and give out word that there were no survivors in order to keep any possible idea of search and rescue from coming near the islands (since there are actually TWO islands) in fear of the rest of the world discoving it.

That's an excellent point, re the coverup. Given the technology they've exhibited, I imagine they could plant a plane in an abyssal trench without too much trouble. So, what do you think the French woman is going to do with the TNT?
