So on top of their wretched payroll (which exceeds $100 million), the Knicks had to pay an additional $37.2 million just for the privilege of putting that 23-59 team on the floor.
How did the Magic end up there? The only thing I can come up with is that Penny Hardaway's contract counted in their tax.
