Lizz Wright: New diva
She plays some old covers but her full voice and soulful interpretations are wonderful. She is a throwback to Phoebe Snow but her voice alone is worth the price of admission. She is more like Norah Jones than Erika Badu but she really does carve her own nitch and has her own sound.
Her first song A taste of honey defies gravity. It starts off from someplace far away and very old school blues.
She time travels with her title cut Dreaming Wide Awake the slow rolling ocean waves of the song are reflective.
Her cover of Get Together is so uniquely hers that you have to appreciate this song almost from a different point of view.
She shows you a lot but leaves you wanting more. Perfect.
